Analog Sketch 1
The above sketch relies on my revised generic devices document. By treating several devices as subsets of other devices, I am left with four primary operations to examine: Data Collection, Ontological Data Analysis, Information Storage, and Ontological Information Analysis.
In the analog, a key depresses a corresponding set of markers below. Multiple keys can be inserted, each depressing a different set of markers. The key corresponds to raw data, the interaction of key and maker is the collection of this data, and the choice of marker to interpret the key data corresponds to the Ontological Data Analysis. The Information Storage occurs when the marker ink is transferred to the roll of paper below. This color information is then read through the color filters. The filters corresponds to the Ontological Information Analysis. Just as different ontological readings will give different interpretations to the same set of information, the different color filters will each give a different reading of the marker ink below. And just as i2b2 allows different ontologies to be combined to allow for different readings, the color filters can be overlaid to give different readings than just a single filter would provide.
